Genoaโ€™s craft beer festival, running from 10 September through late September 2026, occupies the Porto Antico waterfront area beside the old harbour. The festival gathers Italian and international microbreweries alongside live music stages and food stalls, making it one of the livelier late-season events in Liguria.

Format and What to Expect

The festival site covers the open squares between the Galata Maritime Museum and the Bigo lift on the Porto Antico. Breweries set up tasting stations offering pours of lager, pale ale, saison, porter and seasonal specials. Entry to the grounds is generally free; tastings operate on a token system available at the entrance.

Live music plays across the evenings from Thursday to Sunday, with sets ranging from jazz and soul through to rock. Food stalls alongside represent Ligurian street food โ€” focaccia, fried fish, farinata โ€” as well as broader Italian regional dishes. The atmosphere is relaxed and the waterfront setting means views across the port continue throughout.

Genoa as a Base

Genoa is significantly quieter than northern Italyโ€™s major tourist destinations in September, which can make it a more manageable base for travellers combining the festival with time in Liguria. The cityโ€™s historic caruggi (alleyways) and the Palazzo Ducale are within easy walking distance of the Porto Antico. For guided tours of Genoa, book ahead for weekend dates during the festival when availability is tighter.

Trains run frequently from Genoa Piazza Principe and Genova Brignole stations. Milan is around 90 minutes by fast train; Florence around two and a half hours. For visitors flying into Italy, we cover flight options to Italy and getting around once you arrive.

Practical Notes

September evenings in Genoa can be warm but occasionally breezy off the water โ€” a light layer is useful for outdoor evening events. The Porto Antico area has good public transport links and several car parks nearby for those arriving by road. Accommodation in central Genoa is typically more available and affordable than in Venice or Florence for the same period.
