About us

Italy gets more travel content written about it than almost any country on earth. Most of it covers the same three cities. We started The Italy Guides to do something different: write about Italy region by region, with the depth that each one deserves.

Beyond the classic triangle

Rome, Florence, and Venice are on the site — they have to be. But so are Puglia's masserie, the hill towns of Le Marche, Sardinia's interior, and the parts of Sicily that tour buses skip. Italy is twenty regions, each with its own food, dialect, and rhythm, and we try to reflect that.

Food as a way of understanding a place

You cannot write honestly about Italy without writing about food. Not restaurant reviews — more like understanding why Bolognese sauce has no tomato in Bologna, or why ordering a cappuccino after 11am marks you as a tourist. Our food coverage is woven into destination guides because in Italy, food and place are inseparable.

Seasonal thinking

Italy changes dramatically by season. August empties the cities and packs the coasts. November is truffle season in Piedmont. Carnevale transforms Venice in February. We include timing advice because visiting the right place at the wrong time can be a real disappointment.
